GMG Racing’s career weekend at Circuit of The Americas (COTA) set a new benchmark for the championship-winning California-based team, scoring six victories and nine podium appearances across ten races in three different SRO America series.
Drivers Kyle Washington, Tom Sargent, John Capestro-Dubets (JCD), Andre Solano, and James Sofronas all stood on the podium at least once over the course of a packed weekend competing in GT World Challenge America powered by AWS, GT America powered by AWS, and the McLaren Trophy America series.
“Grateful, proud, humble, and appreciative are just a few words to describe my thoughts of the team and drivers after this weekend’s success,” said Sofronas, GMG Racing Founder and Team Principal. “No one sees the work behind the scenes—the long nights for the crew, the advanced planning, the complex logistics. Running four cars across two manufacturers is no small task, but our guys always give 100%.”

Washington Dominates GT America
Kyle Washington continued his torrid 2025 form by securing his second GT America victory of the season in Saturday’s 40-minute sprint, piloting the No. 32 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R from pole to flag.
“We got a true win Saturday as I really don’t count the Sonoma rain win, but it all makes you feel good—really good,” Washington said. “GT America has been a great series for me. I started out getting lapped in my first years. Now we’re winning.”
On Sunday, Washington followed up with a hard-fought battle for the lead, ultimately finishing just shy of another win but extending his podium streak and tightening his hold on the GT America championship fight.

GMG Sweeps McLaren Trophy America
Later Saturday, GMG Racing’s twin McLaren Artura Trophy Evo entries began their own domination of McLaren Trophy America competition.
• John Capestro-Dubets and debuting teammate Andre Solano drove the No. 4 McLaren to a Pro and overall victory from behind the field.
• James Sofronas won the Am class from pole position in the No. 14 McLaren, finishing fifth overall.
“This is a blessing,” said JCD. “James put me in a great car with great teammates, and the whole GMG Racing team has been incredible.”
The momentum continued Sunday with a GMG Racing front-row lockout in qualifying and twin class wins—JCD and Solano capturing the Pro/Overall victory again, and Sofronas repeating in Am while crossing the line second overall.
Sofronas also scored a win in Friday’s special “makeup race” for Sonoma’s canceled round, making him a perfect three-for-three in Am class victories at COTA.
“My drives are just the extra icing on the cake,” Sofronas said. “But it’s nice when we can get the entire team on the podium.”

Washington and Sargent Score GT World Challenge Podium
GMG Racing’s success wasn’t limited to sprint racing. In GT World Challenge America, Washington and co-driver Tom Sargent fought through early contact to bring home a third-place Pro-Am finish in Saturday’s 90-minute race—their best result of the season so far.
“To see Kyle dominate Saturday in GT America, and then back it up with a podium in GT World Challenge alongside Tom, was a big highlight,” said Sofronas. “The No. 32 Porsche was the fastest on the grid thanks to the incredible work from our engineers and techs.”

Reflections and What’s Next
For debut driver Andre Solano, the weekend was a memorable start to his GMG Racing journey.
“It’s been a great weekend working with true professionals,” Solano said. “GMG Racing gave me a great car, and it’s been an amazing experience learning from everyone.”
As GMG Racing turns its focus to the next SRO America event at Sebring International Raceway, May 16–18, the team looks to build on the momentum of one of the most dominant weekends in its history.
“We continue to push, to learn, and to expand,” said Sofronas. “Success like this doesn’t come easily. The work continues.”
Next up for GMG Racing on the SRO America schedule is Sebring International Raceway, May 16 – 18.
