991 + 992 Titanium Harness Bar

Description

The GMG Titanium Harness Bar weighs 16 lb, which is twenty pounds less than our own RSR bar, and the RSR was already lighter than the steel and chromoly bars it was competing with. Those twenty pounds come out of the worst place a 911 can carry them, high in the cabin and well above the center of gravity, where they lean on the car through every change of direction, and taking them out cost the bar nothing in rigidity. The tubing is seamless Grade 9 titanium, the aerospace-grade Ti-3Al-2.5V alloy, and it doesn't corrode, which matters more than it sounds on a part that is going to sit behind your head for as long as you own the car.

Like everything else we make, it came out of racing, thousands of hours of it, and it was sorted on The Thermal Club circuit a few steps from our shop door. We 3D-scanned the cabin before we drew a single tube, so the bar lands on the factory belt mounting points and follows the lines of the OEM interior trim without asking you to cut either, and every one is precision bent, hand TIG-welded and test-fitted by our own fabricators here in Southern California. The geometry puts the shoulder belts at the guide angles a harness is designed to run at, for track days and for competition, which is the entire reason a harness bar exists and the one thing we were never going to trade for weight.

The short version

  • Seamless Grade 9 (Ti-3Al-2.5V) titanium tubing
  • 16 lb, against 36 lb for our RSR harness bar
  • Designed from 3D scans of the cabin to use the factory belt mounting points and respect the OEM interior trim
  • Shoulder-harness guide angles set for track days and competition
  • Precision bent, hand TIG-welded and test-fitted in Southern California

Fitment: all 2012-on Porsche 911s on the 991 and 992 chassis, the same cars as our RSR bar.

  • 2022+ Porsche 992 GT3 and GT3 RS
  • 2014–2019 Porsche 991 GT3, GT3 RS and 911 R
  • 2013–2017 Porsche 991 Turbo and Turbo S
  • 2012–2018 Porsche 991 Carrera, Carrera S and 4S

Finish: it ships the way you see it here, in bare titanium. Anodizing and powder coating are both done to order, one bar at a time, so talk to our sales team about color, pricing and how long it will take.

Shipping: a flat $400 anywhere in the lower 48. For Alaska, Hawaii or anywhere outside the US, email weborder@gmgracing.com for a quote. Installation is available at our shop at The Thermal Club or through our authorized dealers.

Shipping & Returns

International Shipping

In-stock orders leave the shop within two to three business days. We try to keep everything on the shelf, but there are stretches where we're backordered, and when that happens a team member will contact you with an accurate ship date before you have to ask for one. Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico and international destinations run higher than domestic, and because the rate depends on where you are, contact us for a proper quote before you order.

Order tracking

Tracking numbers go out automatically as soon as your order is packed. If 72 hours have passed without one, check your junk folder, which is where these emails tend to end up, and if it isn't there either, contact us and we'll find it.

Get in touch

If you have a question about your order, contact us and a person at the shop will answer it. Customer service runs Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm PST.

Sourcing & Materials

Sourcing

We are particular about what things are made from, which is why we build with Docol R8 tubing rather than whatever the steel yard had that week, and why our merge collectors are now 3D printed instead of fabricated the way everyone else still does it, because the printed part does the job better and the old way was leaving something on the table. None of it is done to look clever. It's done because the material that survives a season at the track is rarely the material that was easiest to order, and we'd rather go find the unorthodox thing than sell you the convenient one.

made here

Every GMG part is produced in Southern California by our own engineers and fabricators, and the process runs the whole way through the building: the 3D scan of the car, the engineering and post-processing, the first prototype, and the beating that prototype takes at the hands of our professional drivers and the crew who support them before anyone is allowed to call it a product. Every name in that chain is one we know. The partners whose products we list are held to the same expectation, because putting our name next to something means we're accountable for it, and we'd rather do without a listing than explain one away.

why it's on the shelf

Our home track is a short walk from the shop door, which means every harness bar, exhaust and performance part we sell has been run in anger under real conditions on our own cars before it goes on yours, and the ones that didn't hold up never made it to this page. That is the entire value system, and it comes from a lot of hours in competitive racing, where a failed part is a wrecked car rather than a bad review. We don't sell vanity upgrades. If a part is listed here it changes something you can measure or feel, or it makes the car safer, and if it does neither we have no interest in taking your money for it.
